Alphabet, Google’s parent company, announced on April 25th, 2024 that it will pay their first dividend of 20 cents per share. The first pay out will be on June 17th, 2024, ex-dividend data is projected for June 10th, 2024.
Google Dividends
Pros
This is a big move for dividend investors creating another option. ETFs, mutual funds, and investors targeting dividend companies will allow Alphabet (Google’s parent company) stock to qualifiy.
Will this slow down growth? Are they giving up on targeting growth? I doubt it. There are multiple companies that pay dividends that are considered growth companies such as Nvidia and Meta. The dividend is so small it should not hurt competitiveness in being a top company targeting artificial intelligence.
Cons
A little bit of money will be taken out of the company. Besides that, overall this could be a good move for investors.
